Messages & People

Konduit has built-in direct messaging so quick conversations don't have to leave the platform — and a People tab that answers "who's here right now?" at a glance. Open both from the Messages icon (💬) in the top navigation; a red badge shows unread messages.

Messages are for conversation between people. Discussion about a task belongs in that task's comments, where it stays attached to the work.

Chats

The Chats tab lists your conversations — 1:1 messages and group chats — newest first, with unread counts and a green dot when the other person is online.

Messages support the full editor: formatting, lists, links, images, video, code, and @mentions. You can also:

  • Reply to a specific message — the original is quoted above your reply
  • React with emoji
  • Edit or unsend your own messages
  • See Sent / Seen receipts and a typing indicator

Start a new conversation with the ✏️ button — pick one person for a DM, or several for a group chat. Groups can be named, and members can be added or removed later.

The People tab

People is the workspace directory. It lists every member — searchable by name or email — with the online members sorted first:

  • A green dot on an avatar means that person has Konduit open right now. No dot means they're away — they'll be alerted about your message instead (see below).
  • Guests are labeled so you always know who has limited access.
  • The 💬 button on any row starts a direct message instantly.

Click anyone to open their profile card: name, email, role, how long they've been a member, whether they're online — and a Message button that drops you straight into a DM.

Profile cards aren't limited to the People tab — click a comment author's avatar on any task, or the avatar at the top of a chat thread, and the same card opens. Message works from all of them, so a conversation is never more than two clicks from wherever you saw the person.

The same green dot appears on avatars in your conversation list and in Settings → Members.

When you're away

Chat is real-time when both people are online. When the other person is away, Konduit makes sure the message still lands:

  • They get an in-app alert in the notification bell — one per conversation, refreshed as new messages arrive, so a busy chat never floods the bell.
  • They get at most one email per conversation per hour linking straight back to the chat.
  • @mentions in chat always alert the mentioned person, online or not — a mention is a summons.

Both behaviors are per-user settings: Account → Notifications → Chat Messages (and Mentions for chat @mentions).

Privacy

Conversations are visible only to their participants — not to workspace admins or owners. Everyone in a conversation must be a member of the same workspace; when someone leaves the workspace, they lose access to its conversations.
